Samsung has decided to hold its upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event in South Korea, deviating from previous reports that suggested the event would take place in the USA or Europe. Lee Young-hee, the President of Samsung’s DX division’s Global Marketing Center, confirmed this decision and emphasized the significance of Korea for the company.

While the exact venue and date have not been disclosed, speculations point towards COEX in Seoul’s Gangnam-Gu district as a possible location.

The Upcoming Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Event Is Happening Here

Launch Event Details

Samsung enthusiasts and tech enthusiasts worldwide are eagerly anticipating the Galaxy Unpacked event. Speculations suggest that Samsung will break away from its usual schedule and unveil its flagship mobile products and wearables on July 26, earlier than expected. This change in the release date has generated excitement and anticipation among fans, who are eagerly awaiting the unveiling of the highly anticipated Galaxy Z Fold5, Z Flip5, and Galaxy Watch 6 series.

Potential for Stand-Alone Mixed-Reality (XR) Headset

Rumors also suggest that Samsung may introduce its first stand-alone mixed-reality (XR) headset at the event. Collaborating with Google and Qualcomm on this project, Samsung showcased its commitment to the next generation of XR experiences with the Galaxy S23 series earlier this year. However, official details about the capabilities and design of the headset remain scarce, adding to the anticipation and curiosity surrounding the event.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 & Z Fold5: A Refresher

According to reports, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 will come equipped with upgraded camera sensors. Although the primary camera (50 MP), ultrawide shooter (12 MP), and telephoto unit (10 MP) will remain the same, the camera sensors themselves will be improved. Similarly, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will feature updated camera hardware while maintaining the same 12 MP resolution for both the main and ultrawide shooters.

Both the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 will utilize the custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, known as ‘Qualcomm Snapdragon for Galaxy’, which was introduced with the Galaxy S23 series. Additionally, both devices will sport larger cover screens, a feature that particularly benefits the flip smartphone variant as it takes on the recently launched Moto Razr+ aka Moto Razr 40 Ultra (terrible name, Motorola).

Samsung is also expected to introduce an enhanced hinge design in its upcoming foldable smartphones. While specific details about the new hinge design have not been disclosed, earlier reports suggest that the current U-shaped hinge will be replaced with a new water-drop hinge design in the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. This updated hinge design aims to minimize the crease on the displays of both foldable devices.
