Does anyone know how many controllers can this adapter connect simultaneously?

I find divergent information online. I see 1, 4, 8 devices… At the moment I only have 1 controller, so I can't test it, but this weekend I'll gather some friends in my house and I'd like to know how many devices can I connect into it.
