The success of the original Miyoo Mini has birthed an updated version, the Miyoo Mini Plus. In the newest iteration, the screen size has been increased and the mini is now not so mini after all.
The original Miyoo Mini was nearly impossible to find online and was incredibly hard to purchase. Miyoo decided to release a new version of the console, the Miyoo Mini Plus, and upgrade some stuff along the way.
That being said, the Miyoo Mini + is still just as popular as the original and isn’t always easy to find available online. We’ll be reviewing this upgraded handheld console as is. Let’s dive in and see why it’s so popular.
Device Specs
The original Miyoo Mini made our list of the best handheld emulators for a reason; it’s a great device at a solid price point.
Overall, the specs of the Miyoo Mini Plus internally are on par with what you would get buying the original, but the Plus has a bigger screen, is designed to be more comfortable, and has an upgraded and longer battery life.

Miyoo Mini + Performance
The Miyoo Mini + really shines in terms of its portability. It’s easy to throw in your bag or back pocket and pull out on the go, whenever you’ve got some time to kill.
As mentioned in the previous section, the internals of this device are nearly identical to what you’d get with the previous iteration. It can handle the majority of retro games up to the PS1 quite well.
The games look great and handle well. Handheld games like the original Gameboy and GBA look exceptional on the 4:3 screen. GBA games look better here than on Nintendo’s original handheld. Other consoles like the SNES look fantastic as well.
PS1 games run fine for the most part, but anything past that and you’re like to run into slowdown issues and performance troubles. If you focus primarily on playing games up to the PS1, this handheld device will be more than sufficient for your needs.
The battery should last you around 6 hours of gameplay which is about what you’d expect from most modern handheld consoles.
Overall Design and Comfortability
The screen is definitely the star in this new handheld iteration. It’s about half the height of the console itself and games look excellent on it. It’s nice and bright and feels high quality and the 4:3 ratio is perfect for retro gaming. It does a good job of feeling retro while also giving a more modern vibe at the same time.
The D-Pad and additional face buttons also feel high quality as well. Along with the D-Pad you’ll find the start, select, and action buttons. It’s the same sort of layout as the original, the buttons have a nice feel when pressed in, and it’s the perfect size for an adult’s hands.
The power button sits at the top of the device with an LED that will let you know when your device is plugged in and charging. On the left you’ll find the volume and the bottom is where you’ll find the headphone jack, SD card slot, and the USB-C port for charging.
The shoulder buttons on the device are nice and feel good to press in. They sit above the battery pack area and are curved in design. They are larger and well placed; they’re actually comfortable to use while playing.
You can rest your hands on them during gameplay and don’t have to worry about your fingers going numb. They’re an improvement over the original handheld for sure.
It can be a bit difficult at times to pop open the battery slot, but you won’t find yourself doing this often, if ever, so it’s not a huge deal.
The operating system of the device is nothing to necessarily write home about. It’s pretty standard, and while it is easy to pick up and start using for most, they didn’t exactly go above and beyond here.
Final Thoughts
It’s hard not to recommend picking up the Miyoo Mini Plus over the original. At the $69.99 price point, you not only get a larger screen, a bigger battery, and a more comfortable device, but you get to pick up the newer model at a very reasonable price point.
We should mention though, that’s if you can find one of the bad boys available online. They are so popular that they aren’t the easiest to buy and often times, scalpers take advantage of this and sell them for a crazy premium on places like Ebay.
If you do manage to find one for sale, I’d recommend considering it. It’s a great handheld that feels high quality for the price tag and plays tons of classic games exceptionally well. Miyoo knocked it out of the park again with the Mini Plus.
