OnePlus launched its Nord series back in 2020. Much has changed since then from the processors to the build. In the latest Nord 4, we can see a Unibody Metal design. Which not only adds to the aesthetic of the device but functionality as well. The Phone is very aggressively priced with the 8GB Variant coming at close to 30K.
What OnePlus Did Right with Nord 4
OnePlus made sure to learn from the mistakes they made in the Nord 3. Nord 4 comes with a Snapdragon Plus Gen 3 processor. Making it a strong device in terms of performance if we talk about benchmarks it scores above 1 million in Antutu. This device has LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage(Top Variant), which makes gaming and day-to-day tasks much faster. I have spent hours gaming on this device and it did not let me down once. Even in games like Solo Leveling, it goes strong. While testing this device I was concerned if the metal body will cause it to overheat. But the vapour chamber keeps it from heating.
There are some features that I think deserve a special mention and can nudge you to buy this device. We are going to talk about the overall device later. For now, you can read about these features.
Feature 1 – Air Control Gestures
This is an upgrade in the gestures menu. Now you can mute or answer calls with just a flick of your hand. You simply have to place your hand at a distance of 20 to 30 cm. Simply flick in an upward manner when you see the prompt appear on the screen to answer an incoming call or you can mute it by putting your palm. You can find this feature in settings under Accessibility & Convenience > Gestures & Motions.
Feature 2 – AI Eraser
AI eraser is another tool that adds to the AI features in the OnePlus. This is available in the Photos app in the editor section. You do need to download an algorithm to use it. The thing I do not like is that we need the Internet for this feature to work properly which is a letdown. Still, the AI eraser is very good compared to the early versions of Nord such as Nord CE or CE4 Lite. You can remove unwanted people or objects from your image with just a tap.
Feature 3 – Smart Cutout
This is also available in the Photos Application. You need to simply tap and hold your image and it will create a cutout of your image. Which can be converted into a sticker or copy-pasted anywhere. If you have enabled the smart sidebar option then it can help you to copy-paste a subject from one place to another.
Feature 4 – Trinity Engine
With the OxygenOS 14, we get the luxury of having the trinity engine. This feature helps optimise the functionality of the RAM and ROM which means it makes multitasking much faster, This is done by using the internal resources in a way that is the best for optimal output. This also helps in maintaining the battery drain of the device, giving you a better battery life.
AI Features
Multiple AI features are promised for the NORD 4 in the later part of the year. This includes AI Write, AI Speak, and AI summariser. AI Features such as AI summarise can summarise an entire article for you or a webpage. It can also help you summarize audio recordings. AI Speak will be able to recognise your screen and narrate the same for you and much more. This also makes this device a must-have.
Android and Security Updates
We all want to have security updates and Android updates promptly. Whereas other companies are only promising either two or three years of security updates. Nord 4 is offering you 4 years of Android updates and 6 years of security updates which in my opinion is a major plus.
Camera Setup of Nord 4
If we talk about Cameras we can see a dual camera setup where the Primary camera is 50MP Sony LYTIA with OIS and the other is 8MP ultra-wide. On the Front, we have a 16MP camera which can shoot up to 1080p in videos. Both the front and rear cameras perform well they can handle light well and the colour saturation on the image is on point.
