Nintendo has shared a seven-minute overview trailer for Pikmin 4, which releases on Nintendo Switch later this month.
In the upcoming exclusive, we will not only be introduced to the new Ice Pikmin that can be used to freeze enemies and the environment but also to the Rescue Pup Oatchi. This playful Space Dog will be able to help you smash obstacles and carry Pikmin throughout your adventure, helping you to overcome the challenges that you are confronted with.
You will be challenged to collect treasures scattered around the planet to repair the Rescue Corps spaceship’s radar, opening new areas for you to explore such as underground caves. You can also eventually set out on night expeditions, where you can use the new Glow Pikmin to drive frenzied creatures away.
There are also Dandori Battles that you can participate in solo or against another player on the same console. In these, you must command Pikmin and race against the clock to collect as many treasures and creatures as you can within the time limit. You’ll be able to grab bonus finds for extra points or mystery capsules that can rain down lightning or rocks on your opponent.
Nintendo’s legendary Shigeru Miyamoto introduced Pikmin 4 when it was first shown in the September 2022 Nintendo Direct, explaining: “Nintendo Switch has made controlling the game simpler, meaning you can further concentrate on the core essence of Pikmin gameplay. We call it ‘Dondori’ in Japanese, or strategically planning, deploying and commanding the Pikmin. I hope you are all looking forward to Pikmin 4.”
Pikmin 4 will release at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 21 July 2023.
