Have you ever wondered what went into the launch of SNES classic EarthBound? What about the extensive fan community that surrounds the game? Well, you’re in luck, as Fangamer’s new documentary, EarthBound, USA, goes into exactly that—and is available for digital rental right now. You can get a glimpse of the film in this trailer:
The documentary has been gestating for over a decade. It delves into the 1995 release of EarthBound in North America, as well as the huge fan community that has sprung up around the game in the years since, including its eventual revival, which took many years to come to fruition. EarthBound, USA features interviews with several notable figures connected to the series, including creator Shigesato Itoi, former Vice President of Brand Management for Nintendo of America Gale Tilden, and translator/localizer Clyde Mandelin.
Alas, the documentary can only be digitally rented at the moment, but if you’re interested in a physical copy, pre-orders are still available. You can hit up this link to either watch the film or procure yourself a disc. EarthBound has certainly cemented itself quite the legacy as one of the most influential RPGs ever made—it’s great to see a documentary covering its importance and the impact that it has had on gamers everywhere.
