Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0 Devs Reveal New Ricochet Anti-Cheat Measures To Combat Hardware Hacks

Activision’s Ricochet Anti-Cheat continues to be improved upon by developers for the publisher’s flagship FPS franchise, Call of Duty.

With Ricochet, Activision aims to fend off cheaters and hackers on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty Warzone 2.0. As part of a new update, the developers have added numerous improvements to the games’ anti-cheat system.

Call of Duty’s anti-cheat measures

New Replay investigation tool added to Ricochet Anti-Cheat

The first major addition comes in the form of a Replay investigation tool. The system uses captured and stored match gameplay data for developers to investigate cases of cheating. This helps the studio’s Ricochet Anti-Cheat team to identify cheaters among suspicious players.

Detecting third-party hardware

The developers have also unveiled a new third-party hardware detection system as well. This will allow the Ricochet Anti-Cheat team to prevent players from improper use of software like Cronus for controllers.

As part of the system, players using unsupported devices will receive warnings. Continuous improper usage of these devices will “lead to additional warnings, the deployment of mitigations, account or feature suspensions, or the banning of the offending account across Call of Duty titles.”

New mitigation techniques to harm the experience of cheaters on Call of Duty titles

The new Ricochet Anti-Cheat update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty Warzone 2.0 also sees the developer having some fun by fiddling with the experience of cheaters. These new mitigation techniques allow the Ricochet Anti-Cheat team to gather information and data of cheaters, while also making sure that they won’t ruin the experience of others in-game.

These new in-game mitigation techniques include:

Cloaking: Hides legitimate players from cheaters
Disarm: Removes weapons from cheaters in-game
Damage Shield: Adds a protective layer on legitimate players, which deflects all damage inflicted upon by cheaters.
