Multilayer ceramic capacitors are safety-certified

Kyocera AVX has released the KGK series of Class X1/Y2-compliant capacitors and the KGH series of Class X2-compliant capacitors, both rated at 250 VAC. The multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) in both series meet EN 60384-14, IEC 60384-14, and UL 60384-14 standards. They provide surge and transient protection, as well as EMI filtering, in modems, fax machines, and other consumer and industrial devices.

Class X safety capacitors are placed between an AC line and neutral, while Class Y safety capacitors are placed between the AC line and ground. MLCCs in the KGK and KGH series are available in two dielectrics: NP0/C0G and X7R. NPo/C0G variants offer capacitance values ranging from 3 pF to 1000 pF. X7R variants have capacitance values extending from 100 pF to 56 nF.

All of the 250-VAC capacitors operate over a temperature range of -55°C to +125°C. KGK Series Class X1/Y2 and KGH Series Class X2 safety capacitors are packaged on embossed carrier tape and shipped on 7-in. or 13-in. reels. Lead time ranges from 13 weeks to 17 weeks. The capacitors can be ordered from Mouser and Digi-Key.
