Snow Day! gives off potty-mouthed Garden Warfare vibes

South Park: Snow Day! has a new trailer and it looks like what you get when you combine the vibrant visuals of EA’s Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare and the fantastic storytelling found in South Park: The Stick of Truth and The Fractured but Whole.

South Park: Snow Day! is a 3D co-op game from South Park Digital Studios, and sees Cartman, Kenny, Kyle, Stan, and the New Kid battling their way through the snow-covered town to save it from an endless winter. Wielding special abilities and powers, melee and ranged weaponry, and a wild vocabulary, you will fight your way through hordes of enemies in co-op for up to four players or with bots, and even take down a few bosses along the way.

“Play with up to three friends, use matchmaking, or solo the game with ally bots and battle through the snow-piled town of South Park. Engage in frenetic, action-packed combat against warring factions in an all-new story where you make the rules. Equip unique weapons and deploy devastating, upgradable special abilities on a new adventure to save the world and enjoy a day without school.”

Looking at the new trailer, we’re getting strong Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare vibes, thanks to the colorful visuals and goofy abilities. Unlike EA’s shooter, though, Snow Day looks like it’ll be PvE only, with the only player interactions coming from co-op play. It looks like a ton of fun either way, and we’ll be excited to play it next year.

The last two games in the franchise — South Park: The Stick of Truth and South Park: The Fractured but Whole — were published by Ubisoft, but also had involvement from South Park Digital Studios, while this latest title is being made in collaboration with THQ Nordic. Both of those games are highly regarded as fantastic South Park titles, so we have high hopes for this latest entry.

South Park: Snow Day! was announced earlier this year following a tease from THQ Nordic during a showcase in 2022. South Park co-creator Matt Stone had said that a new game was in development, which lined up with a report from Bloomberg, which suggested Stone and Trey Parker had signed a $900 million deal with ViacomCBS and had multiple games in development.

The deal reportedly sees South Park continue to Season 30 over the next six years, so we should have a ton of South Park fun ahead of us. We don’t have a release date for Snow Day just yet, but it’s expected to launch on Xbox Series X|S in 2024.
